Why is my proxy not working?

❌ Why Is My Proxy Not Working? Troubleshooting Guide

If your proxy isn’t connecting or behaving as expected, don’t worry — you're not alone. There are a few common reasons this happens, and in most cases, the fix is simple.

Here’s a quick checklist to help you diagnose and resolve proxy connection issues quickly.

✅ 1. Check If You Have an Active Plan

Before anything else, make sure your proxy plan is active and hasn’t expired.

🔍 Visit: dashboard.rainproxy.io/usage
Here you’ll see your current plan, remaining bandwidth (if applicable), and whether the plan is still valid.

If your plan has expired or been fully used, simply purchase a new one to restore access.

🔐 2. Verify Your Proxy Login Format

Rainproxy uses username:password authentication, and it’s very important to enter your credentials correctly.

🧠 Note: Some usernames include region or filter tags (e.g., -country-us), and those must be included for the proxy to work.

Correct Format:

Username: youruser-country-us Password: yourpass

Entering the wrong format will result in a failed connection.

🌐 3. Use the Correct Proxy Host & Port

Each Rainproxy product uses a different host and port, depending on the proxy type and protocol. Be sure you're connecting to the right endpoint:

Proxy Type

HTTP/S Host:Port

SOCKS5 Host:Port

Premium Residential

gw.rainproxy.io:5959

gw.rainproxy.io:9595

Exclusive Residential

resi.rainproxy.io:9090

resi.rainproxy.io:1080

Datacenter

gw.rainproxy.io:5959

gw.rainproxy.io:9595

Mobile Proxies

mobi-fast.rainproxy.io:8080

mobi-fast.rainproxy.io:1080

IPv6 Residential

package-ipv6.rainproxy.io:8081

Be sure you’re using the correct port for your chosen protocol (HTTP/S vs SOCKS5), or the connection may fail.

🔥 4. Check for Local Issues (Firewall, VPN, etc.)

If your credentials and settings are correct but the proxy still doesn't work:

  • Disable your VPN temporarily — it might interfere with proxy connections.

  • Check your firewall or antivirus — some security software blocks proxy traffic.

  • Try on another network — if it works elsewhere, the issue is likely local.

🧪 5. Test Your Proxy with curl

You can use the command line tool curl to test if your proxy is working. Here's an example command:

curl -x http://youruser-country-us:[email protected]:5959 https://ipinfo.io/ip

Replace youruser-country-us and yourpass with your actual credentials. This command will return your proxy IP if the connection is successful.

🔄 Still Not Working?

If you’ve:

  • Confirmed your plan is active

  • Verified your username/password format

  • Used the correct host and port

  • Checked for local software conflicts

… and it's still not working, don’t hesitate to contact our support team. We’re happy to help.

🧠 Final Tip

Each plan is configured through our automatic proxy generator, so once you've selected your desired options, everything should be plug-and-play, as long as you enter the correct details.
