When a proxy doesn't work, the issue may not always be caused by the proxy itself.
A connection involves several components:
Your application → Rainproxy → Target website
Testing each part can help identify where the problem occurs.
Step 1: Check whether the proxy connects
Generate a fresh proxy and test it with an IP-checking service.
If the proxy connects successfully and displays an IP address, your basic proxy connection is working.
Step 2: Test another website
Try accessing another website through the same proxy.
If other websites work
The issue may be specific to the original target website.
If nothing works
Check your proxy configuration, credentials, protocol, host, and port.
Step 3: Try another IP
Generate another proxy or session and test again.
If the new IP works while the original doesn't, the issue may be related to the specific IP or how the target website treats it.
Step 4: Try broader targeting
If you're using very specific targeting, temporarily remove unnecessary restrictions.
For example, if you're using:
Country + State + City
try testing with:
Country only
If the broader configuration works, the issue may be related to availability in the more specific location.
Step 5: Test another supported protocol
If your software supports multiple proxy protocols, test another supported protocol.
This can help determine whether the issue is related to how your application handles the proxy connection.
What do the results tell me?
Test | Result | Possible cause |
Proxy doesn't connect anywhere | ❌ | Configuration or connection issue |
Proxy works on other websites | ✅ | Target-specific issue |
A new IP works | ✅ | Issue may be specific to the previous IP |
Country targeting works, specific targeting doesn't | ✅ | Location availability |
Browser works, software doesn't | ✅ | Software configuration |
One protocol works while another doesn't | ✅ | Protocol or software compatibility |
